Outreach & Community Service

Fall 2016

Our current outreach efforts have reached over 700 students in the Rolla, St. James, and Licking Missouri Communities. This semester we plan to extend our reach even farther. We will also be working closely with one classroom to develop advanced presentations that will integrate into their lesson plan.  Our hope for the program is to interest students at a younger age when math and science can be the most frustrating and discouraging subjects.

Community Service - Rolla Animal Shelter

The Rolla Animal Shelter fundraiser was held over a weekend in September. Donations were collected outside of Country Mart and we were able to collect $169 and some supplies.

   Outreach- Rolla Elementary Schools

We also visited the St. Patrick school on Oct. 21st and 22nd. SWE members performed Nano-CEMMS science experiments with the students and showed them how cool science and engineering is. The students loved it and can’t wait for us to come back.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IGED)

This month, our SWE Section hosted a IGED event at the Havener center on April 18 from 11 to 3 pm. This event was aimed towards 5th to 8th graders with the purpose of introducing more girls towards the idea of engineering. The event was a success with vistors from St.Louis dropping by. We were happy to host the next generation of innovative thinkers and tinkers.
